DEV MISIR

Founding Partner

Dev Misir B.A. (Hons), M.A. (Econ) LL.B., graduated with a specialized honours degree in Economics from York University in 1978, a Master's degree in Economics from Queens University in 1979 and an LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1982. He was called to the bar in 1984 and has been practicing in various areas of law since his call to the Ontario bar. Dev is an economist, lawyer and the founder and principal of Misir & Company, which he established in 1984.


Dev has broad knowledge of corporate, commercial, civil litigation, insurance, immigration, taxation and extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, Canadian and international business transactions and corporate finance. He also has expertise in corporate tax and health care law and policy. He has appeared before trial and appellate courts and various federal and provincial administrative tribunals in Canada.


Dev is knowledgeable in several areas of law and has been providing guidance and support to various members of the firm in all areas of the dispute resolution advocacy. This includes litigation strategy, mediation and arbitration. Dev is personally involved in advising clients on business transactions and litigating various commercial and civil litigation cases. He also takes on an advisory role in other cases, by providing insight and ensuring that each client of the firm gets the best result and receives the maximum compensation they are entitled to, structured according to their specific needs.


Dev ensures that his immigrant clients are treated with dignity and cultural sensitivity by members of the firm, opposing lawyers, and court officials. "Result-oriented", "aggressive", "knowledgeable", "articulate and diligent" are some of the descriptions peers have used when describing him one of Ontario's top lawyers. He is known best for his business, law and advocacy skills and years of successful civil, commercial and criminal court trials and immigration, WSIB and CPP tribunal hearings. Dev has earned a reputation in the legal community as a tenacious but fair lawyer. He’s also an advocate for access to justice for those disadvantaged individuals who would not otherwise be able to afford access to the justice system in our society. He has helped several members of the immigrant community acquire businesses and properties and become successful entrepreneurs in Canada.


Dev Misir is also an accomplished entrepreneur and businessman. He has published papers in International Tax and Economics. He also co-authored a book: Estate Law-Reading and Cases with Professor John Blanchard of Osgoode Hall Law School.


Dev was an adjunct professor of Economics and Canadian Business Law at York University between 1979 and 2008. His community organization efforts are recognized in Canada by ethnic and other cultural groups within the South Asian community.


Dev is a member of the Advocates Society, The Ontario Trial Lawyer's Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.

NARESH C. MISIR

Associate Lawyer

Naresh Misir B.Sc. LL.B., graduated with two Bachelor of Science degrees (Political Science & Sociology) from the University of Ottawa and an LL.B from University of Windsor in 2001. While obtaining his law degree at the University of Windsor, Naresh completed the Johnson CIT program, a business law intensive program focusing on business transactions, initial public offerings and financing. He was also a member of the Intellectual Property Institute, a joint program between the University of Windsor and the University of Detroit Mercy focusing on Copyright, Trademarks and Patents.


Naresh was called to the bar in 2002 and has been practicing law for over 10 years. His experience includes personal injury, estate and criminal litigation.


Naresh is known for his aggressive approach, attention to details and commitment to meeting his clients' needs. He is also a strong supporter for local charities and a member of the Indo-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. Naresh has been a guest lecturer in Professor Dev Misir's Canadian Business Law course at York University and appears on Geetmala Radio (CHIN 100.7 FM) every second Thursday at 8:00 PM and 9:00 PM to discuss civil litigation and personal injury claims.

ROBERT R. PATTERSON

Associate Lawyer

Robert R. Patterson obtained his B.A. from the University of Western Ontario in 1981 and earned his LL.B. from the University of Toronto in 1984. He was called to the Bar in 1986.


Bob joined the firm in 1986 and in the ensuing years played an integral role in the building and development of the firm. He left the firm in 1999 to pursue other practice opportunities and then rejoined the firm in 2009. His current practice is focused on representing plaintiffs who have sustained personal injuries (e.g. motor vehicle accidents, slip and fall accidents, etc.) or are involved in a dispute with their insurance company (e.g. property insurance, long-term disability insurance, etc.). He also has an extensive background in real estate, wills and estates.


Bob resides with his wife and three sons in Brampton. Outside of the office, he has an avid interest in various sporting activities including hockey, baseball and golf and has been involved as a coach in youth hockey and baseball for over 11 years.

ANNE E. FULLERTON

Associate Lawyer

Anne E. Fullerton received her B.Sc. (Hons.) degree at the University of Toronto in 1983 where she graduated with distinction and was on the Dean's List. She graduated from the Faculty of Law at Queens University in 1986. She was called to the Ontario Bar in 1988.


Anne has been practicing law for more than 25 years and specializes in civil litigation and family law. Her current practice is focused on representing Plaintiffs who have sustained personal injuries as a result of motor vehicle accidents, medical malpractice and slip and fall accidents, or who are engaged in a dispute with their long term disability carrier.


In the course of her legal career Anne has made well over 1,000 appearances at the Superior and Provincial Court levels. For 20 years, Anne also assisted Professor Dev Misir by conducting tutorials and lectures for his course in Canadian Business Law at York University. In her spare time, Anne enjoys playing the piano and is a parent manager of the Ice Dreams synchronized skating team.
